How to Make a Paper Balloon

In Room 9 Literacy we are starting a unit on procedural writing. Over the next couple weeks we will be reading, following and writing a range of instructions.

To start this unit off we have been learning what a great source You Tube can be to find instructional videos.

Fishing Stories

In Literacy class we have been writing stories about fishing in an attempt to win a fishing rod that the Minstral donated for a school wide writing competition. We shared our stories with eachother yesterday and here are the three that we voted to go on to represent our class.

Good luck, you will have to bring in the rod to show us if you win

The Fishing Adventure

Wow! (something bumped the boat). I tugged as hard as I could. It was like the snapper was playing tug of war with me. I heaved and hoed the snapper on to the boat. “I’ll get the ice and a wet towel” Mum shouted. “It’s teeth are as sharp as swords” I screamed. We finally pinned it to the floor. We got the ruler and measured the snapper. Darn, it was too small. “It is five centimetres too small” I said confused. “Well” said dad, “it was still a big adventure”. We released the fish and the next thing you know my sister got a bite.

What is it?

Whoooo the boat was rocking, massive waves and a huge fish. I got a bite. My granddad took a look and saw a tooth the size of my nose. “Ahhh look at that” I said. The boat was tumbling and whooshing water. I said, “ what is it?” he said “schawal”. “What?” I replied. I took a look and then said “shawal”. My granddad took a look one more time and said “It’s a kingfisher”.

He grabbed the rod, it was really bendy. We said we thought we had tea tonight. My rod bent till it touched the water. ‘SNAP’ there’s my rod gone. We grabbed the net, we’ve got it. We had tea that night!!

Two hours in a boat….boring. What is that a Mongolian shark? Aren’t those extinct? They are it’s dead. Sharks surrounded it. I hit them with my rod and shot them with my flare. Pieces of shark flew everywhere. We didn’t catch any fish so when we got home we said, “We caught fish…..and chips”.
